Budgie with a sore foot

by Chris Jones

I have just noticed recently that my pet budgie cannot bend his right foot. He can still fly and stand on his perch. When he does stand on his perch he does not curl his toes around the perch he keeps them straight out.

He seems to be his usual self. Is still eating and drinking.

Trip to Avian Vet

Your bird is either sick, injured or both, and needs the immediate attention of an Avian Vet in your area. Make an appointment and take him in as soon as is possible to have this taken care of as it most likely hurts him a lot.

Birds try and cover up that they are sick or feel bad because in the wild (all parrots are wild animals), being sick or injured is a death warrant. The other birds, in the flock, run the sick or hurt one off by himself to die. Sick and injured birds bring predators and cannot be tolerated within a flock of birds. So, your bird is in pain though he is trying not to show it for fear you will turn him away.

Take a sick or injured bird to an Avian vet as soon as you realize there is an illness or injury. Birds feel pain just like we do, so please don't delay having him treated by an Avian vet in your area.
