hi, my 4yr old budgie, i think he has broken his leg as he cant seem to stand on it and holds it up most of the day so he has to balance on his lef leg. I think its been like this for just under a month but recently he holds his leg up for tye whole day, i think its broken?

What can i do to help him without having to take him to vet bcos it is expensive. Will he survive? Is he in a lot of pain? He can still stand on it if he needs to for about a second then lifts it up.Please help! :( anything else i might need to know about helping joey please explain in as much detail as you can and if left untreated cn his leg recover by itself?

broken leg

I am sorry if this sounds harsh, but I am horrified that you feel that it is O.K. not to get vet treatment How would you like it if you had a possible broken leg and were in constant excruciating pain?

GET THE BIRD TO AN VAIN VET IMMEDIATELY otherwise find someone who actually cares about the bird to adopt him

If you can't afford vet treatment you cannot responsibly own and care for any animal.

Bird with broken leg needs an avian vet

Untreated it will not heal on its own. Yes, he is in pain, that is why he is not using the leg. I cannot legally make any treatment recommendations or attempt diagnosis without seeing your bird. He needs to see a veterinarian.

Budgie with possible broken leg

Yes, your bird is in pain. It is always disappointing when people write these kind of questions. If you had a broken leg would you be wanting the person caring for you to not care that you are in pain and get your leg fixed up?

Anyway, Dr B will answer this eventually, but I don't think he will be able to help your bird over the Internet. Your bird needs it's leg examined, checked for internal infection, pain meds, and likely splinted.

It is always our advice if you can't afford vet care for your pets, then don't get a pet. Avian vets usually take payments, so you should be able to get your bird medical help and make monthly payments.

Please use this Find an Avian Vet link to find an avian vet for your bird.
