Budgie Won't Train?

by Coral
(London)

We found my bird about 5 months ago on the bonnet of a friends car, after leaving posters up for 2 months there was no response, so because i had had budgies before, they told me i could keep him.

since we found him he has been very happy in his cage, but refuses to come out, and pecks violently at me when i try to finger train him, he wont even sit on a wooden perch i hold out for him!

I don't know what to do because i would love for him to be trained!

please help!

Thanks

Budgie hard to train
by: Tracie

Budgies can be difficult to train, and once trained need to be handled most every day to keep tame.

I suggest you stop trying to get him out for now, and just try to develop a trust between you and the bird. Please read the articles on our Parrot Training page for more information on training your bird.

With time and patience, I believe you will be able to train your bird. You will need to have his wings clipped to keep him from flying around your home, getting hurt and even more scared once you bring him out of the cage.
