budgie's feathers missing from neck area

Why does my female budgie have feathers missing from her neck area? She's not pulling them out because she can't bend her head down in a way that she could do that. My male does not have that problem.

Budgie missing feathers

Dr B has answered this question before, so I will share what he says.

It is possible that a cage mate is over preening the feathers, or the bird has a health issue that only a visit to the avian vet will bring resolution.

I suspect that it is a health issue, because it is very unusual that the bird would only get over preened on the underside of the neck. Unless I misunderstand, and it is the back of the neck. If it is the back of the neck, then the male could be pulling feathers when he mates with her.

There is no way anyone can tell you without seeing the bird in person, so a visit with an avian vet is the best thing to do.
