bump on umbrella cockatoos tongue..

by Tylor

My umbrella cockatoo has a large bump on its tongue as if its growing another tongue on its tongue. I just wanted to know if its normal and will go away on its own, or if it wont go away on its own what kind of medicine (if any) should i use.

Thank you in advance.

Cockatoo with growth on tongue

It is not normal and not going away on its own. This could be a tumor, and abscess or a granuloma, often caused by vitamin A deficiency. You need to have your bird looked at and treated by an avian veterinarian as soon as possible. There is nothing over the counter that will help.
