Can cockatoos be around other breeds of birds?

Any of the birds from her part of the world will work around her. Not in same cage though as each bird needs its own cage for safety reasons. The birds from Australia and the Philippines and some of the African ones like the African Grey who would be a very good companion for her and maybe even teach her some more words. She is large, so do not get any of the very small birds as they will be afraid of her. There are greater and lesser Sulphur Crested Toos who would work.

Always be very near if any birds are out of their cages together to make sure they get along. I recommend birds coming out of cages when you are able to be in the same room to watch them interact and play.

Also, and this is VERY important. Take the new bird to an Avian Vet ONLY to be checked for infections or other physical problems BEFORE bringing him/her home because infections are highly contagious and easily transferred to your Too. If buying from a breeder, sometimes their birds come with health certificates. Ask them if they have taken bird to an Avian Vet within the last week. If not, ask them to keep the bird until you take it to Avian Vet to make sure it is healthy. If it needs meds for an infection, then it needs to remain with the breeder until meds are finished and a followup visit is done. This will protect your Umbrella at home and keep you from having double avian vet bills.

Thanks for writing and keep in touch with us so we know who you decided to get as a companion for your Too.
