Hi everyone i have a 8 week quaker parrot her name is Jet. Ive had Jet since she was only 3 weeks old. Anyways ive been noticing shes been a bit "itchy" as she picks on her feather and grooms herself and little flakes come out? is it time for a bath maybe? i haven't tried bathing her as she just recently got all her feathers and shes still missing some under her wings? is she ready for her bath or should i wait until she is a bit older?
Thank You!
Jet & Nora

Quaker bathing
by: Angela

Your bird is the cutest thing I have ever seen! I have a Quaker also. She was a little over year old when I got her. She came from an abusive home so I don't think anyone tried to bathe her. She wouldn't get into a bowl of water so I used a water filled spray bottle and would mist the water into the air above the cage to get her wet. She does take a bath now but only in my fancy Mikasa bowl!

Bathing a parrot
by: Tracie

You can provide clean water in a shallow dish, and see if your parrot wants to bathe. Make sure the water is only out for 3 hours, so that the bird doesn't bathe in bacteria water. (This is why you should also provide a water bottle instead of a water dish for drinking.)

The itching and white flakes are likely due to the bird getting in new feathers. Some birds really enjoy bathing when molting and getting in new feathers. :-)
