Can I teach a 2 Years Old african grey to talk?

I did not raise my African Grey, I bought him when he was 2 Years old, I have him since about a week or two now. Will I be able to teach him how to talk? He makes noise sometimes, but he doesnt talk. And he sometimes screams at me when i come close to his cage.

All new birds have to go to an Avian(Bird) Vet in your driving area the first few days they are with you because all of them coming from pet stores and most breeders are already sick.

Do NO training until your bird has been examined for infections or other physical issues. His life depends upon you providing an Avian Vet for him when he is sick or injured.

So, before worrying about talking, please take your bird to be examined by an Avian Vet and not a regular dog and cat vet as they know nothing about birds and have killed many giving wrong diagnosis and meds to them.

Teaching AG to talk

It is certainly possible, but there are no guarantees. My mom had an African grey that only learned a couple of words and a ton of sounds even though she spend all her waking hours with him. She rarely leaves the house, but would leave on talk radio when she was gone.

Most African grey parrots learn a lot of words. Spend time with your bird, so it feels like you are a part of the flock and will want to communicate with you. Repeat the phrases you want the bird often.
