Can parrotlets eat cardboard

I set a tissue box in my two parrotlet's cage with some torn up tissues for bedding. they completely chewed up the front and ate it. Is that ok? Will they get sick from eating the cardboard?

Cardboard toxic for birds?
by: The Vet

It is possible they get sick from ingesting the cardboard. Some papers have toxic glues, and they cannot digest the fiber in the paper. If they are actually eating it, then do not give it to them. Find an alternate source for bedding. I recommend aspen. Tracie sells a product by FiberCore called the Echo Forage Pak under foraging toys, this is a safe paper product. It is good for nest box bedding, too. But I like the aspen better.
