Patricia, if the medication is not working, then the avian vet needs to determine what is wrong and prescribe accordingly. It isn't too unusual that what worked last time doesn't work now.

Talk to the vet and make sure there is not something you can do to avoid this and make sure you don't stop the medication just because the bird seems better, take the medicine for the prescribed time so the bird doesn't become resistant to medications.

whining pionus

the medication was prescribed by an avian vet. but this time, it's not workding after 3 weeks. just wondered if anyone has had a whining pionus and what the cause was in their case. in my case, the first time was yeast overgrowth. but this time, treating with the same medication doesn't seem to be improving.

Unless you have a diagnosis from an avian vet, you should not be treating your bird with anything. Giving medications without a diagnosis just confuses the symptoms and makes it harder for the vet to determine what is wrong. Also, the bird just gets sicker and sicker while the actual problem doesn't get treated.

my whining pionus
by: Patricia

a month ago, my pionus started whining and at the same time diminished her eating, until she stopped eating all together. her poop culture indicated moderate amount of yeast growth. so we started on Intrafungal and she got better. after 2 weeks, she was back to normal. we continued the medication for 2 more weeks. about a month after that, she started whining at picking at her food again, so we started on the intrafungal again. but this time after 3 weeks, there has been no improvemnet. we also did baytril for 5 days first. i am with her most of the day, so it's not a lack of attention. it is an illness, physically. any ideas or similar circumstances with anyone?

I don't know, you did not provide much information. If this is a new behavior, it may be sick. You might need to Find an Avian Vet to examine your bird.
