take it easy

hey linda is absolutely dear friend it is essential to cut the primary wings of ur bird so it will neither go into the fan/s nor will get scared when sitting on the window panes and fly away on some tree or at a near by house.clipping wings is nt at all bad but u have to be a experienced cutter or u should take the bird to the vet and learn the skill.if u cut more than 6 feathers then it will not only destroy the beauty of the bird but also lead to irritation and anger which results into biting habit.way to go.keep posting.

First of all, take your bird to an Avian Vet in your driving area and have him examined for infections or other physical problems. We recommend this visit during the first few days or week birds are in our homes. Most pet store birds are already sick when they are bought, and birds do not get over infections, they worsen until the bird dies.

Have the Avian Vet trim the wings, and please do not try this yourself unless you are very experienced with birds. If you cut a blood feather, your bird will bleed out.

Have avian vet cut ONLY the 6 long Primary Flight feathers which are found at the ends of each wing. Do not allow vet to cut any higher as this causes chronic pain and cripples the bird. He will not be a happy camper at all.

Make sure you take him to an avian vet as dog and cat vets are not licensed or trained in the care of birds or other exotic animals and will either do nothing or kill your bird with wrong diagnosis and wrong dosage of the wrong meds.

Find an Avian Vet
