clipped wings

Budgie tatoo

Budgie tatoo

on the second week of october i took my bird ( a budgie) to the local pet store and asked that his nails be cut. they did cut his nails but they also cut his wings even tho i has said not to when they asked.

it is now january coming up and i have noticed that one wing his feathers have grown but the other side is still very short and i do not know why that side does not seem to be growing he is spoiled and gets a good diet and food cooked for him because he is like another family member ( haha he eats at the table with his own dish he loves the attention) is it possable that the people who cut his wings damaged one side somehow or would it take longer to grow? i feel bad about this because i am an AHT student and went somewhere to cut his nails instead of doing them myself( didn't have enough hands)

ps he is about a year and a half old

Improperly clipped wings
by: The Avian Vet

This often happens with improperly clipped wings. It may take up to a year or more for them to grow back in. but there is no guarantee that they will.

Always take your bird to an Avian Vet for nail, beak and wing trimming because pet stores and dog groomers do not know how to safely to this. Until you have learned the correct way to clip nails and wings, take your bird to an Avian Vet to have this done. Never, ever trim the beak yourself because if done incorrectly bird will bleed out and die.

When the avian vet trims wings have ONLY the 4-6 Primary Flight feathers clipped and these are the long ones on the ends of each wing. To cut higher up causes chronic pain and bird cannot land safely.
