Clogged Nose
by: Linda

Hi and thanks for writing. Go ahead and get him to vet as quickly as you can as this could be a an infection. It can also be dust caught in there that he has been unable to sneeze out.

Sometimes the stuff in nose get hardened, and vet will have to get it out with an instrument.

If vet checks bird out, and he does not have any infection, you can do the following to keep nose holes clear in future:

I use a plastic plant spray bottle to bathe my Amazons using warm water, and I spray around their nose holes really good. They'll usually sneeze any dust out and all is well. I do this once a week winter and summer (less wet on bodies in winter), and they enjoy their shower. Their cage also gets a good wash at same time.

So, take your bird to vet and make sure this is not the beginning of an infection just to be sure.

Amazon with clogged nare

Dr B can not help, because he can't examine your bird and unclog the nare. It could just be stuck food, but it could be infected or something else causing this.

Please take your bird to an avian vet for an examination and treatment.
