My Other Child

Nacho is a blue and gold. I have had him since birth and he is 18 years old. I know his health is fine, however am very curious why he falls off his perch. It does not happen in the day, only at night or very early morning. Is hs sleeping and then tips?

When this happens I always check him out to see if he is ok because the last time, he broke 3 LONG feathers and one slightly bled. I cradle him and he breathes heavy for a few minutes as if winded, but then he is back to normal. Or is he normal, ha ha. I read one bird owners question about the same thing and you said, go to the doctor, and I am not sure why a doctor visit would help?

Bird falling off perch
by: The Vet

It is not normal for bird to fall off of the perch at night or in the day. This can be caused by many things such as epilepsy, weakness, neuromuscular disease, calcium deficiency, and many other things. I recommend that you have your bird examined by an avian veterinarian. You also want to be sure that he is eating 80% of his diet as pellets so he gets a balanced and complete diet.

Sometimes they fall off the perch with seizure activity. I would get him to a vet ASAP.
