growing beak
by: I. Fisher

my cockatiel is almost 20yrs old and over the last 12 months his beak keeps growing, we trim it about every 4 to 5 weeks but don't know why this is happening

Editor's note: If you want people to see and answer, you need to post a question, not an answer here to another question, at Parrot Questions

You will need to Find an Avian Vet for your bird so it can be examined to determine what is wrong and what the potential treatment might be.

Cockatiel beak too long
by: The Avian Vet

This could be a nutritional problem, if your birds are on seed diets. It could also be caused by liver disease. You need to be feeding pellets like Harrison's, and your birds need to see an avian veterinarian.

Rapid beak growth
by: Tracie

Dr B will answer this eventually, but it is likely fatty liver disease. Are you feeding your birds a healthy pellet diet, like Harrison's and only 20% healthy treats? Seed diets and feeding food from your table will cause serious health issues.

I had this issue with my first parrot, because I didn't even know about healthy pellets. I only knew about seeds and cheap colored, sugary pellets sold at pet stores. Then a pet store employee suggested I add a medicine and "health booster" to the water and my bird died from being over medicated and too much vitamins. :-(
