Cockatiel beak trimming

Hi I'm worried as I'm taking my 3 1/2 yr old cock cockatiel to the vet's tomorrow morning to see if his beak needs trimming as it seems long. It's worrying me that birds can often die following quite simple vet procedures. Syd is happy and healthy otherwise.
Should I worry so much?
