Cockatiel Chicks with a wierd lump

by Jana Tanelle
(Erie PA)

I have two chicks and one has what looks like a lump of seeds stuck in her throat about the size in diameter of a dime in her thoracic region. Is this normal or life threatening? Streptococcal bacteria looks like a bundle of grapes so I am concerned. Or are they seeds shes just saving them for later? The other one doesn't have it but she is a couple days younger. I don't know if this means she is ill or normal.

It sounds like her crop has food in it. Check it ever 2-3 hours to see if it goes away. If not, take her to see an avian veterinarian. You would not be able to see Strep bacteria.
