Cockatiel

How old is your Cockatiel? It is possible for babies when being relocated to a new home to relapse into the hand feeding stage. If you notice your bird not eating his/her seed contact the breeder or pet store you got him/her from and ask them to give him/her a few hand feeding meals. Open mouths and begging (chirping your cockatiel keeps making) is a common method for baby birds to use as a signal to be hand fed.

I'm not sure what you mean, and Cockie Males have a loud song they sing a lot. If your bird is all alone, then he may be calling out to a mate he had at one time or a brother or sister from his nest.If you get him a friend, make sure friend has his/her own cage to prevent fighting.

If his mouth stays open all the time, he is sick, and you must take him to an Avian Vet in your driving area. If you did not take him into see an Avian Vet when you got him, you have to do so now. Birds can become sick very easily when being moved from one place to another, and it is always a good idea to take them to an Avian Vet when they first come to you.

Also, make sure the vet is an Avian (bird) Vet as regular dog and cat vets are not licensed to diagnose or treat birds and will make mistakes with both.

Thanks for writing,
Linda
