cockatiel female lose feathers

I got 2 cockatiels from a coworker and the females cheek feathers where the orange circles are suppose to be are gone. the lady i got them from said this is the 2nd time the bird has done this.. is this normal or why does it have no feathers there. looks like may be starting to come back.

Cockatiel missing feathers

This could be a genetic problem, a nutritional problem, mate aggression, ear infection, or other possibilities. Have her looked at by an avian veterinarian. Be sure she is eating a pellet diet. Pellets should make up 80% of the diet. This is the only way to guarantee that she is getting a complete and balanced diet. I recommend Harrison's or Roudybush pellets.
