Cockatiel has abcess between his legs.

by rosie
(California)

Hello, I've had this cockatiel for about three weeks and about a week ago i noticed that he has an abscess on his tummy..between his legs and it seems hard is this something i should be worry about? Also, he had a little blood under his tail were he has been pecking at. It healed but he is pecking at it again...is this normal, he seems fine otherwise. he eats and plays.

Thank you

Cockatiel with abcess

No, this is not normal, and can be potentially life threatening. You need to get your bird to an avian vet ASAP. An avian vet will determine if the abcess is cancer or something else and then will be able to prescribe the exact treatment needed.

If you need to find an avian vet, you can look for one on our Find an Avian Vet page.
