What does it mean if my cockiteal is laying eggs and her leg is swollen?

It means your bird needs to see an avian veterinarian. It could be egg binding, enlarged ovary from cysts or tumor. It could be one of a number of different causes.

It means your bird either has an infection or has an injury. Both have to be taken care of by taking bird to be examined by an Avian Vet ONLy in your area. Birds do not get over infections without being diagnosed and treated by avian vet. They sometimes need help with pain from an injury. Everyday you wait is another day for her to hurt and be uncomfortable. If you have a nestbox in cage, take it out and leave it out until she is healthy again. If she is laying unfertilized eggs, they need to be thrown away. Tell avian vet about the egg laying and steps you can take to get her to stop it.
