Cockatiel laying eggs

by Charles Gonder
(Farmingdale NY)

My cockatiel layed an egg yesterday but she has not really spent much time in the nest box and she burried the egg under the nesting material. Should I be concerned or is it to soon?

Sincerely sorry
by: Tracie

I am sincerely sorry for offending you. I should not have assumed you were not a breeder. You did not give any background information, and I couldn't even tell if your bird had a mate for the egg to be fertile.

Honestly, I did not mean to offend you. Please forgive me. Linda was a long time breeder, hopefully she will read your question and help you.

10 years

I have 10 years of breeding experience and have never had a situation when my cockatiels have not sat on their eggs from day one. My red factor on the other hand does not alweays sit till she has 2 or 3 eggs in the nest. Your response is condescending and insulting. I dont appreiciate you assuming that I do not have breeding experience. I was hoping to get a response from a breeder not a vetinarian. I will not send any further questions to your web site thanks

Egg laying question
by: Tracie

This seems to be a breeder question, rather than a vet question.

Please contact a breeder in your area to talk about this. Also, ask if you can help this breeder so you can get some experience before you attempt to breed your birds again.

If you are not attempting to become a breeder, then please take the nesting box off and separate your birds so that they do not breed.

Here is a link to our Find a Breeder page. Even if you do not have a breeder in your town on this list, you can call a breeder and get some help.
