Cockatiel lost balance and energy... Help please!

by Korey
(UK)

What does it mean when my cockatiel has lost balance and doesn't have much energy? She still eats, drinks, preens and poos and she can still also climb around the cage although not very well - do you think she is laying an egg or is egg bound maybe? If so it would be her first time as she is only 7 months old, I'm just a little worried and havnt a clue what to do... Do I take her to the vets or leave her be??? PLEASE HELP!

Been to vets, appears to be breathing problem... Advice for medication?
by: Anonymous

Thank you, I have taken her to my vets and they say she is not egg bound but has raspy lungs so they gave her an injection and some anti biotics to give by a syringe my only problem now is giving her the medication - I tried the syringe but she doesn't take to it very well and I have to give her it twice a day, do you have any suggestions as to how I can give her the medicine without using the syringe and that would be the most effective? Thank you so much for your time and help, I couldn't appreciate it more! Fingers crossed my cockatiel gets better!

Bird possibly egg bound
by: Tracie

No matter what is wrong, you need to Find an Avian Vet quick. There isn't anything that can be suggested to help without an avian vet examining your bird to determine what is wrong.

To prevent a bird from ever becoming egg bound, make sure you are feeding your birds Harrison's or Roudybush pellets.
