at night when my cockatiel is resting she will just sit there and stare into space.
If you then get up from the sofa it makes a noise.
my cockatiel will then make a squeaking noise.
also if my cockatiel climbs to the bottom of her cage to chew the newspaper on the bottom of the cage, she will squeak if you stand by the cage?
why does she do this?

urgent question
by: sandra

My cockatiel broke a blood feather yesterday and I took him to the vet. The vet pulled the feather out and also cut the leg band (I had asked him too). He seemed in good spirits but I noticed that he was having trouble bending his toes on the leg that the band was on. Today he's been sleeping all day, the toes seem a little better, but still seem a little off. He's eating fine and has no trouble going to the bathroom.
Is it normal for birds to feel like this after plucking a blood feather or cutting off the leg band?
Thank you.

Mating Time!
by: Dimple

My cockatiel is going through this kind of stage currently. I took her into the vets to see why she acts like this. She is just being very protective of her cage because she might be getting ready to lay infertile eggs. Mine has never laid eggs before and is abt 6 or 7 yrs old. This is the first time she has shown this behavior. She also will make funny noises and stick her tooshy up in the air. She will be annoying at night and start to whine as well. Its normal behavior. its mating season for them and sometimes they will lay eggs and sometimes they wont. Mine still has not and the vet has told me that she just might not this time around. SHe chews the newspaper to try to make a nest.. we use paper towels for our tiel and she enjoys shredding it and playing with it..

Editors note: You should have a DNA test done to know for sure the gender of your bird. The website below is a great source for Cockatiel information. This specific link is on the page about whether or not you have a male or a female.

Cockatiel noises
by: Tracie

I don't know why your bird does this. Maybe it is just communicating with you or trying to get your attention.
