cockatiel swollen eye

by michelle

ive had my baby cockatiel for three weeks now.the day after i brought him,the area above his one eye was pink and slightly swollen.there was no discharge or sneezing,or any other sign of illness.after a day or 2,its eye was back to normal.then yesterday, the same pink slightly swollen area above the same eye is back again!again there is no discharge etc.he does wipe his eye on his wing occaisionally and scratch it.i am wondering if it is an eye irritation or maybe the start of conjunctivitus.

I don't know what to do
by: Anonymous

My birds eye had what looked like a stye on top of his eyelid, keeping his eye shut. As days went by I noticed that he would open it a tiny bit then shut it again. He was acting fine like it wasn't hurting him so I didn't take him to the vet, today I saw that the stye thing is gone but his eye looks like its bloodshot. I don't know what to do.

Cockatiel Swollen Eye
by: Anonymous

My cockatiel is around 16 years old. Has been very healthy just a picky eater and thin. Last night I came home and he was really chirping non-stop. I kept checking and talking to him, it would not stop, finally I put him on my shoulder and he calmed down. When I went to put him back in cage, he was having trouble getting in. This morning I noticed his one eye swollen shut. I put tears eye drops in and it opened. I cannot get a good look but am wondering if it is serious or just a cold, maybe a scratch?

swollen red eye
by: Anonymous

My white faced cockatiel damaged his eye 2 weeks ago. One eye only. It is very red and swollen. Pretty much bug eyed. It is mostly swollen between the eye and nostril. So the vet out him on an antibiotic eye ointment. After a week. No change. So for a week we had him on oral antibiotics. He seemed to be getting Better. But now its getting red and swollen again. Also he kind of whistles when he breathes. It sounds like a respiratory infection. He has scratched all of the feathers off. Now I don't know what to do. Please somebody help.

Editor's note: Take your bird to an avian vet soon for help.
