cockatoo with watery poop

by Kathy
(Colorado)

We just bought a 2 yr. old cockatoo 5 days ago, today I noticed his poop is very watery. Is this a sign of illness? Or could it be his food? The previous owner was basically giving him corn, pellets, brown rice. I've been giving him fresh fruit (not a lot) fresh veggies & a tiny bit of seeds. Or do you think he is just stressed from moving?
Thanks for any info.
Kathy

I agree with Tracy, but also I have found with my citron, that if she is nervous, she will poop watery poops too. Don't know what happened to her in the past, but she is a very nervous bird. She screams alot when she can't see me. She has separation anxiety, but I try to ignore her. I hate to because I don't know what anyone did to her in the past and I don't want her to feel like I'm neglecting her. I love her dearly though, regardless of how much she screams.

Editor's note: You might try the Stress or Shhhh remedy.

If you bird has consistent watery poop then you need to Find an Avian Vet for your bird. Feeding watery fruit will cause the poop to be watery, but if you are feeding 80% pellets and only 20% treats, the poop should be normal the rest of the day.

Please consider feeding Harrison's or Roudybush pellets if you are not at this time. The colored pellets, ZuPreem, Lafeber and those with sugar and tons of chemicals are harmful to the bird and will shorten it's life.

Also, be careful to feed organic, because the chemicals they feed crops and spray on crops can cause illness or even death in birds. Yes, it is rare, but it only takes one fruit or veggie with a deadly chemical fed to it to hurt the bird.

If this bird was not taken to an avian vet before being sold to you, then do make an appointment with an avian vet to make sure the bird is well. Pet stores often purchase from shoddy breeders that do not care properly for their birds. A reputable breeder will sell their birds with a certificate of wellness from an avian vet, to prove that their birds are high quality and healthy.
