Picking goffin cockatoo

Your bird doesn't necessarily have to be sick to pick but if you have an avian vet near you, it would be a good idea to have it checked over, bloodwork done, etc.

The cockatoos pick for several reasons, first and foremost if it isn't medical, then it could be boredom, lack of attention, lack of toys, not the right foods, breeding season, etc. the list goes on and on. After having it checked by an avian vet, start by making sure it is eating the right foods, then go on with more attention, toys, time out of it's cage, etc.

Good luck. It sure is a cutie.

Poor bird, something is either causing discomfort or pain. You need to take your bird to an avian vet for an exam to find out if this is an infection, illness or something else causing the bird to do this.

You can find an avian vet using this Find an Avian Vet link.

Our avian vet has written this Feather Damaging Behavior article that will give you information about this problem too.
