cockitiel laying eggs while with rainbow loriket

Hi there I have a cockitiel who much to my suprise laid an egg this morning , It also lives in the same cage as our rainbow loriket and they both get on very well. The loriket is extremely protective of the egg, will this egg hatch?? or will it be unfertilised?? I have no idea?

First of all, why do you have two birds in same cage who require different diets? Lori's require different foods than the Cockatiels, and so you need to separate them into two cages, do some study on what, exactly, Lori's are supposed to be eating as well as what the Cockatiel should be eating. Both can eat organic pellets, and the Lori will need additional nutrition as well. The organic pellets and other high quality foods can be found here.

As I mentioned, you need to be feeding the Cockatiel and Lori somewhat different diets except for the pellets. Take a look here and see what is recommended for both of them in the organic food secion.

As for the egg, no it will not hatch because these birds are two different species and cannot breed with each other. Please do some study on who and what your birds are as there is a wealth of information on the internet and some good books here as well.
