companion for bird

by Margaret
(NJ)

I have a 1 1/2 year old Meyers and I think it is boy. I am going to croak soon and although I can probably find him a good home for basic care I do not want him to be lonely. Is it possible to put a new Meyers in the cage with him so he has company? It is a big cage 24 x 24 x 48.

I never had a parrot before. In the short time I have this one I have come to believe that NO bird should be kept in captivity but certainly not without a companion of his own species. How would we like such a life????

Any info about giving my bird a friend would be greatly appreciated.

Margaret

You will get better!
by: Christina

You are not going to "croak" Tell yourself that you are going to get better, and pray that you will get better, and you will get better. With praying and a positive attitude you can and will get better. I've seen people get better countless times by doing this. Good luck!

Getting your bird a companion
by: Tracie

You can't just buy another bird and expect it will get along with the bird you already have. And if you are not going to be around, you need to make sure whoever will have your bird wants two birds to care for.

You will need to have a separate cage for the new bird. The new bird would keep your bird company, but you must see the new bird as your bird, not your bird's companion. The new bird will need all the same love and attention you give the bird you presently have.

Make sure whoever is going to take your birds when you are gone, are willing to take twice the mess, twice the vet bills, twice the food and toy bills and twice the noise.

I am sorry to hear your health is not good. Thank you for considering the happiness of your bird.
