confusing my Green Cheek Conure to mate

my green cheek conure loves to go underneath his/her white paper towels and a gravel grit paper that I keep on bottom of cage. He/she will also snuggle in the paper towels and sleep there. A couple weeks ago I leaned a piece of newspaper against a lower perch. It made a little tent on one side of the cage. lately Peanut(his name) will go behind it and snuggle but also makes little crackle popping sounds and flutters his wings a little bit.
My question is- Am I confusing him/her into mating? I only have peanut and he/she never layed eggs before.

Thank you

I have a green cheek male and he loves to do the same thing but he tries to find folds in his blanket and makes the same little sounds. His wings flutter. I just let him do his little hide and seek.

Green cheek snuggling under things

This is a great question! To start with, don't read into anything I type as if it is said in a condescending way. I am only relating what I believe to be true, it's my opinion from my research and relationships with vets and other bird owners. You are welcome to have a different opinion. :-)

I am addressing your question and things I noticed in your post.

1) I don't know that you are encouraging mating, but you are possibly encouraging nesting behavior.

2) Conures don't need gravel, and eating gravel can cause their crop to get impacted and intestinal problems.

3) It is best to have a grate that separates the bird from the poopy paper.

4) If your bird isn't eating a high quality pellet like Harrison's or Roudybush and starts laying eggs, it could become egg bound due to nutritional problems. It should be eating about 70-80% pellets.

Articles for switching to pellets are listed below, in case you need that. The budgie method works for other birds, I used it to convert my conures.
