Constant chirping, and chewing of leg.

I have a senegal parrot, we have owned her for 9 years. About 9 months ago she started biting her left leg all the time. While she is biting, she is also doing this high pitched chirp over and over again.

I took her to the vet and he put a neck brace on her at two seperate times, over a course of 5 months. He was trying to retrain her behavior. It didn't work. Do I need to keep her in it constantly? I just want her to be happy and not eat herself. I would appreciate any help you could offer. Thanks for having such a great site.

Bird chirping and chewing leg

Did you take your bird to an avian vet? What tests did the vet run to rule out infection or disease? Dr B needs to know what tests were run in order to help you with suggestions of what other tests should be run.

Without examining your bird or knowing the tests that have already been run, he can't make any suggestions. According to your description, it sounds like there is something internally wrong and the bird needs to be seen by an avian vet, and possibly your took the bird to a dog/cat vet that doesn't have the experience or training necessary to help your bird.

If you did take your bird to an avian vet, then please share the test results so Dr B can help you further.
