constant grooming. normal?

My sun conure seems to be constantly grooming. The weather is getting warmer n I'm wondering if maybe that is why. He plays normal n hangs around watching and chatting normal, eating normal all the things he does. Juat seems like a lot of grooming. Dont want him plucking that's my main concern.

Molting should be over, but depending on your part of the country, it could have started later. Keep an eye on him, and if it continues, see if he is getting any pin feathers coming in. If not, then he may have dry skin which can be taken care of with spray baths, using a new, clean plant sprayer and filtered warm water. I say filtered water because regular tap water has a lot of chemicals that hurt skin instead of helping it.

Twice a week would be a normal bath cycle, and if the grooming continues to be a problem, he will need to be examined by an Avian Vet ONLY in your area because parasites could be a problem. Most birds who stay indoors do not have parasite problems unless they have come into contact with one who does have parasites.

Thanks for writing,
Linda

Your bird might be beginning to molt. Do you give your bird a bath? Nice warm shallow water in a bowl big enough to splash around in will do. If your bird doesn't like bathing or is afraid, you can use a clean spray bottle (available at dollar store). Warm water and spray the bird from above so the water falls like mist. Do not spray up close or directly onto bird.
