give them time
by: Anonymous

hi, I have had my GC conure in with my blue pionus for over 4 years and they are the best of friends but I would first give them time to get used to each other. Put their cages close and give them lots of "out of cage" time , you still have to be careful they are different in size!!! Good luck!!

No, do not do this. Keep both birds in separate cages, and only allow them to play together outside of cage if they are being constantly watched. It is always best to keep even same species birds in separate cages, and those who are different species and different sizes must stay apart forever. It's best to keep them in their own cages anyway.

Later on, if you can afford a huge cage with individual feeding and watering stations for each bird and a cage that is more than roomy, keep them in separate cages. Take whatever the minimum size shown in cage ads and multiply that times 4 or 5, and you may just have an adequate cage for two smaller birds. All parrot cage ads for smaller birds are showing "minimum" requirements, and the minimum is extremely inadequate housing for any of these birds. It can also be this way for the larger birds like the Amazons and Greys, so ALWAYS get a much larger cage than the one recommended if bird has to spend much time in it.

Thanks for writing,
Linda
