Conure tail feathers fell out

Hi there, I bought my Green cheek conure in March 2011. He did not have a tail due to a fight with another parrot who pulled them out.

He is now about 9 months old and still no tail? Every now and then a little feather comes out but the falls out again.

Will he ever have a tail again?

It is possible that since the feathers were traumatically removed that the follicles are damaged. If so, then he may not grow in a tail. It is also possible that he is nutrient deficient and does not have the nutritional intake to make feathers. IF your bird is not on pellets, then this could be at least part of the problem if not all. Also, it takes a very long time to grow the larger feathers, sometimes 12-18 months. I recommend that you have him seen by an avian veterinarian to be sure that there is no damage to his follicles.
