I have a Yellow Sided Green Cheeked Conure. Usually when my dad comes home he will rub her ear and her neck. Sometimes my bird will attack my dad for no reason. Why does she do that?

Another thing is that one day in the summer I took her out to meet my friend suddenly she jumped off my hand and attacked his face and missed. My friend ran and she chased him out of the room. Do you have any Idea why she does that? But other than those two things shes a great loving bird!!

Biting Green Cheeked Conure
by: Tracie

Our Yellow Sided GC is temperamental too. She wants what she wants when she wants it. She will not tolerate those she isn't in the mood to tolerate either.

First, read our article on biting in our Parrot Training files. You can click the button on the left near the top to find it.

Second, learn to watch the body language. When your bird gets what has been called "The Egyptian Head" where the feathers on the top flatten out and the body seems to swell, leave the bird alone.

Instead, show the bird you respect that it doesn't want to be held. In a minute or two later come back with a favored treat and have the person that is wanting to make friends be the one to give it to the bird.

Now our bird will sometimes take the treat and throw it down to show it is angry still. We just talk sweetly and give it another one. Usually this works.
