My conure rubs his beak from side to side on his perches, cage, my shoulder...anywhere he is out when he is eating. I thought he was cleaning his beak, but have noticed on one side that he has worn a groove lengthwise down his beak. Should I be concerned? It starts at the membrane/skin-like area below the base and continues 2/3 of the length of his beak-just on one side.

Conure excessive beak rubbing
by: The Avian Vet

Your bird has a problem inside of his beak. It could be a foreign body, a tumor, infection or several other possibilities. It could also be a sinus infection. You should take him in immediately to see an avian veterinarian.
