Conure's eye pink & a little swollen

by Shannon

I have a two year old green cheek conure. Yesterday I noticed that one of his eyes is a pinkish color and a little swollen in the corners. His other eye looks perfectly normal. My question is could this be an infection? Should I take him to the vet or just watch it to make sure it doesn't get any worse? It didn't look any better or worse today. He seems to be acting perfectly normal, but I know birds tend to hide illness very well.

Thank you for your help!!!

my cockatiel had the same problem, just in one eye,i thought he had hurt it so watched it for a few days, apart from the sore eye,he was fine, then one morning, his eye was worse and had spread to his other eye.he kept scratching it or rubbing it on his wing.i took him to the vet immediately and he was prescribed baytril antibiotics in the water for 10 days.we are on day 5 now and his eyes are nearly 100% better. my advice, take your bird a.s.a.p ,dont give it chance to get worse

Bird with pink swollen eye

Dr. B suggests that you take the bird to an avian vet to be looked at. There is no way of telling what is wrong without tests, so there is no way to prescribe the correct treatment.

Like you said, birds hide illness and can go down hill pretty quickly. It is important to treat the correct problem so that the bird gets will quickly.
