White spots on parrot's cornea

White spots on parrot's cornea

Hello, I just noticed that my 17 year old African gray has tiny white spots all over both eyes. The spots appear to be on the cornea and there are several of them. I'm concerned and would like to know what they are and what caused them. Any advice would be appreciated.

Parrot eyes have spots
by: The Avian Vet

This can be one of a number of conditions. You need to have your bird seen by an avian veterinarian for a definitive diagnosis. Possibilities include corneal ulcer, corneal trauma, remnants of a viral infection, corneal infection (fungal or bacterial), or foreign debris. Other differentials are possible, but only determinable with an exam.

Please use this Find an Avian Vet link to find an avian vet for your bird so it can be examined to determine what is wrong and what the potential treatment might be.

I have passed this along to Dr B. Sometimes it takes him a while to answer, due to his busy teaching and practice schedule.
