Cough and sneezing

by Rene'

Quaker Parrot

Quaker Parrot

Hello. I have conure and she has picked up a cough and sneezes about 3-4 times a day. I am not sure what I should do for her. Should I take her to a doctor or let it run its course?
Thank you for your advice in advance.

Bird coughing and sneezing

You need to Find an Avian Vet to examine your bird and prescribe something according to what is wrong.

You posted a picture of a Quaker Parrot. If this is the only bird you have, I just thought you would want to know it is not a conure.

You can read more about these parrots on our Quaker parrot information page.

One of the major causes of bacterial infections in birds is from drinking and bathing in the same water. Your bird should only have water in a dish for 3 - 4 hours max a day. It is best to just put a dish in while you are in the room with the bird. Once your bird bathes remove the dish.

Your bird should be drinking from a water bottle to prevent bacteria from food particles and poop getting in it's eyes, nares and other body openings.
