Painful feather molt
by: Tracie

It the bird is pulling out wing feathers, they are not the new ones coming in. He may be pulling out the old feathers. The new feathers are stiff and full of blood until they fully come in. The "blood feathers" are sensitive, so it would not be comfortable to bump them for sure.

You can provide water in a shallow dish for a couple of hours a day for your bird to bathe in, and this will help. Do not leave water in the cage for more than 3 hours, because water bowls are the number one source of pseudomonas bacteria which is a very common cause for illness and plucking. A Lixit water bottle is more sanitary and can be changed once every 24 hours without the chance of bacterial infections.
