death of a budgie

My budgie was 12 years old and was always full of life and happy. I went on holiday for five days and my daughter looked after him, the day after I came home he made ch ch ch noises for about fifteen minutes, I held him and talked to him; he then started bleeding from his nose and beak, fell off my hand and died within a minute or so. Was there anything I could have done for him or was it just his time to go?

Bird died mysteriously

I am sorry to hear of your loss. This sounds like he was exposed to Teflon cookware. There could be other possibilities, however. For example, infections, tumors, and malnutrition from a poor diet (seeds are not a complete diet). It could also be a combination of these things. You should have a necropsy (autopsy) done to rule out infectious disease in case you have other birds or plan to get other birds.
