DEWORMING COCKATIEL BABIES

by CINDY
(ELKHART IN )

MY COCKAITELS ARE PROUD NEW PARENTS AND I READ THAT I SHOULD DEWORM THE BABIES. THE WAY THE BOOK MADE IT SOUND IS THAT I ONLY NEEDED TO DO IT IF MY BIRDS GO OUTSIDE. IS THIS TRUE OR DO I NEED TO DEWORM MY INDOOR BIRDS TOO?

Don't deworm indoor birds
by: The Vet

You do not need to deworm your birds, especially the babies. If you have outdoor birds that have access to the ground (dirt floor aviary for instance), then these birds should be checked annually with a fecal screen, but not dewormed unless parasites are found on exam. ABSOLUTELY never use over-the-counter medications for any reason, and don’t give meds without the supervision of an avian veterinarian.
