i have a 10 month old alexandrine, an ive read on your page that they should get all or almost all their food from organic pellets, but when i go to the species page along with the alexandrines they all say to give 20-40 percent of pellets
so my question is should my alexanrine be eating almost only pellets or the 20-40 percent
he eats all the pellets i put in his cage an usually in the afternoon i give him a small treat of seeds and nuts plus he has fresh vegatables and fruit every day

Best diet for Alexandrine Parrots
by: The Avian Vet

You need to feed 80% pellets and 20% treats. Harrison's or Roudybush pellets are best. ZuPreem has lots of sugar which can cause yeast infections and can lead to digestive problems. Also all of the artificial ingredients can cause problems too.

Pellets are the only way to guarantee a complete and balanced diet. Be careful what you read on the internet. Look at the source. Pellets should be in the cage at all times, and your bird can have a small amount of treats 2-3 timed daily. Treats should not be left in the cage. Seeds should be only 5-10% of the diet.

I have asked Dr B to answer this, thanks for asking. My original research is likely wrong, because that was written before I had a working relationship with Dr B, who actually teaches at a university along with having a practice for over 30 years. I trust his knowledge and experience, because he has seen so many bird on all the different diets to see what is best.
