Hi, I've got a green cheek conure and the shop I got it from, does not what's the sex. How can I know, is there any obvious singes?

Sexing Parrots
by: Linda

For the parrots where both male and female look alike the only way to know is to have them sexed using DNA from a blood sample. Your Avian vet can take the sample, and they'll mail it off to a lab for the DNA test. It is the only way for younger birds and even older ones unless a hen has layed an egg. Male's heads are usually larger as are their beaks, but in the smaller birds there is usually not enough difference to be able to tell.

So, if you really need to know, take your bird to your Avian vet and have the DNA tests done.

Thanks for writing,
Linda
