difference between wheezing and normal parrot sounds

by lisa
(Illinois)

my parrot has begun to make a new sound, a bit like he is communicating. not sure if this is actually wheezing though as i havent heard this before 2 days ago. does wheezing in birds sound similar to what people would experience? he is still making his usual sounds although he doesnt scream during the dinner hour as we have been accustomed to the last 19 years. other than this he seems fine. thanks for your help.

Bird making wheezing sound
by: Tracie

It is possible your bird is sick, and because there is not a way to tell over the Internet, you need to Find an Avian Vet to examine your bird right away.

The sound you describe is the sound birds make when they have an infection. The treatment depends on what kind of infection, but it may not even be an infection but something else.

The fact that the bird isn't making the normal noise at dinner time is another indication of illness. Bird's hide illness until they are very sick, this is why avian vets suggest yearly check ups and vaccinations.
