DNA sexing my Green Cheek - which feathers should I pull?

by Nika
(Queensland, Australia)

Alright... so the breeder of my 5 week Green Cheek just gave me the application forms and everything to send in for Tiki to get DNA sexed.

I have to pull out 2 of his feathers which I am DREADING (because he only just got his feathers... it seems such a shame!)

Anyway, so which 2 feathers are the best for DNA sexing? On the form it says "we prefer the feathers to be between 5-10cms".

How do I pull them out so that he/she doesn't feel it? I feel so sorry for my little baby... he was just a fluff ball a few weeks ago! And yeah, I can't pick up little feathers that have already fallen out. I have to be cruel and pull them out myself..

DNA test feathers
by: Tracie

I am not sure, I have not done a test myself. I would either let your vet or breeder do it. If you decide to do this yourself, then maybe call a breeder or your avian vet and ask them.
