Putting young bird in with older bird

There is no telling if they will get along. They may hate each other for days, weeks or longer and one day get along or may never get along.

You will need to make sure they are not male and female so you don't have breeding issues. And you will need to keep them in separate cages until you know they will get along.

You can allow them to play together outside their cages in a neutral area, that neither bird considers their own. Once they get along outside the cages, then you can allow them to play on top of the cage you hope for them to share.

Once they are getting along all the time, you can open the door to the cage you want them to share and make sure there are two water bottles and two food dishes and make sure you have the two stations on opposite sides of the cage. (One water and food on one side and one of each on the other side.)

If the birds go down in the cage and don't fight, then do this a few more days before you shut the door with both birds inside.

You can read my green cheek article on our Parrot Training page to see how I did this.
