Does my bird have a tumor or is preganet?

by Marilyn
(PA, US)

My female parakeet's anal area/ lower belly has been enlarged for approximately six weeks now. It seems to be a pinkish color and dry. However she is very friendly with another parakeet. We thought that she was pregnant but nothing has happened yet. Is this a possible pregnancy or a health concern?

Egg or tumor?
by: Tracie

You need to get your bird to an avian vet ASAP.

Birds do not get pregnant like mammals. They produce an egg which takes about 25 hours. The egg is laid and she is no longer "pregnant." This occurs about 4-6 times per laying cycle over a 7-10 day period.
