Is it an Alexandrine Parakeet or known as Parrot??

If it is an Alexandrine Parakeet/Parrot you don't have to take them to the vet to find out when they are mature their colorings will tell the difference. My Alexandrine is a male. He has a pink ring around his neck which the females lack. The males ONLY have the pink ring. The tail has nothing to do with the gender.

Determining Sex
by: Anonymous

For the birds where both sexes look alike, it is best to have vet do a DNA test as Tracie suggested. In older birds, sometimes their unique behaviors can help determine, and for 100% accuracy, let the DNA test be done. I had a Scarlet Macaw many years ago that I got as a baby, and named HIM Sherlock. Well after about 6-7 years, Sherlock turned into a Sherl because she was very much a hen! To this day, I call her a him when talking about her/him LOL!

Send us a picture when you can as the Alexandrines are very beautiful!!!

Tail decides gender?

I don't know what an alexy is, but you probably need to have a DNA test done on the bird to determine the gender. Your vet or breeder can do the test for you.
