Donna, conure wheezing

I went home yesterday and I heard this funny wheezing noise. I noticed it was coming from my Sun Conure, Maui. Maui is 14 years old and has been a very healthy female all of this time. I don't know what to do. Can you help? She is eating and drinking as usual. She wants to be cuddled, so I took her out of the cage for a few minutes. I don't know what to do for her. I feel helpless.
Thank you

Wheezing conure

Dr B can not help, because he can not see your bird and run tests. Please take your bird to see an avian vet soon. It may have a bacterial infection or something else.

Donna, thanks for writing. If you were wheezing, what would YOU do? You'd make an appointment with a doctor and go in for diagnosis and treatment.

This is what you have to do for your bird. She needs to be seen by an Avian Vet in your driving area as soon as is possible. She may already have pneumonia--if not now, very shortly. Once she goes off her feed, and she WILL, she'll have very little time left.

There is a link on this site for help in finding an Avian Vet, so please look in your yellow pages and/or use link to find an Avian Vet. Do not take her to a regular dog and cat vet, as they are not licensed to treat birds. PLEASE GET HER TO A BIRD DOCTOR AS QUICKLY AS YOU CAN. COVER HER CAGE FROM HOUSE TO CAR, CAR TO VET'S, AND SAME ON THE WAY BACK. SHE DOES NOT NEED ANY MORE CHILLS. Also, cover her cage top and sides now to help hold in her body heat. Sick birds cannot regulate their body temperatures.

Let us know what vet had to say.
